Road Signs EE — User Manual

A study companion for Estonian and EU road signs.

Road Signs EE helps you learn official Estonian road signs and test yourself with quizzes, organized by category. This manual walks through every screen and feature so you can get the most out of the app.

This manual covers the app in English only. The app itself is fully available in Estonian, English, and Russian — switch languages any time from the language buttons described below.

Getting Started

First launch

The first time you open the app, you’ll see a welcome screen asking you to accept the app’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. You can open either document to read it before agreeing. Tapping Agree takes you to the Main Menu. This screen only reappears later if the app’s policies are ever updated — everyday use never shows it again.

Your progress stays on your device

Everything you do in the app — favorited signs, quiz history, which categories you’ve unlocked — is saved only on your own phone or tablet. There’s no account to create and nothing is synced to the cloud. If you uninstall the app or switch devices, this progress won’t carry over.

The Main Menu

The Main Menu is your home base, with three big cards:

• Learn — browse signs as flashcards, category by category.
• Quiz — test yourself with multiple-choice questions.
• Catalogue — a searchable reference list of every sign.

Below the cards, an About button leads to information about the app and a directory of partner driving schools.

At the top of the screen you’ll find three small switches you can use anywhere in the app:

• A language switch (ET / EN / RU) to change the app’s language instantly.
• A sun/moon switch to toggle between light and dark theme.
• A speaker icon to turn the app’s sound effects on or off.

The current app version is shown near the bottom of the screen. If a newer version is available on the Play Store, a banner appears offering to take you there — you can dismiss it with Not Now and it will ask again next time you open the app.

Picking up where you left off

If you were partway through browsing signs in Learn mode, or had a quiz in progress, the Main Menu will offer to pick up right where you left off the next time you tap Learn or Quiz:

• Learn: a prompt shows the last sign you were viewing, with options to Continue there or Browse Categories to start fresh.
• Quiz: a prompt offers to Resume your unfinished quiz (same questions, same score) or Start New to pick new settings.

Learn Mode

Learn mode is for browsing signs as flashcards, one category (or several at once) at a time.

Choosing categories

Tapping Learn brings you to a grid of category cards (Warning, Priority, Prohibition, Mandatory, Information, Service, Guide Signs, Supplementary Plates, Road Markings), each showing how many signs you’ve favorited out of the total in that category.

You have two ways to start browsing:

• Tap one or more cards to tick them (a checkmark appears in the corner), then tap Continue at the bottom to browse all selected categories together, mixed in one flashcard deck.
• Press and hold a single card for about a second to jump straight into just that category, skipping the checkmark step.

Handy shortcuts above the category grid: All categories ticks every unlocked category at once, and Reset selection clears your ticks.

A category you haven’t unlocked yet appears dimmed. Tapping it opens the Unlock Full Access screen instead of the flashcards.

Using the flashcards

Each card shows one sign. By default the app uses Blind mode: the front of the card shows only the sign’s image, so you can quiz yourself on what it means before checking the answer.

• Tap the card to flip it over and reveal the sign’s name and explanation.
• Swipe left or right to move to the next or previous sign. The card always resets to the image-only front side when you land on a new sign.
• Tap the star icon on the back of the card to favorite or unfavorite that sign. You can favorite and unfavorite as many times as you like — it’s just a bookmark, not a one-way “learned” mark.
• A thin sliver of the next and previous signs’ artwork peeks in at the screen’s edges, so you always know there’s more to swipe through.

At the top of the screen, you can switch to Full View instead of Blind mode. Full View shows the image, name, and explanation all at once, with no flipping needed — useful once you’re past the pure recall stage and just want to review. Switch back to Blind any time; the toggle applies for the whole Learn screen.

A Shuffle toggle randomizes the order signs appear in, if you’d rather not always go through them in the same sequence.

Cross-referenced signs

Some sign descriptions mention another related sign by its number (for example, a sign and the supplementary plate that’s often used with it). Wherever you see a sign number written as a tappable link in a description, tap it to open a small popup showing that sign’s image and details — without losing your place.

Reporting a problem

If you spot something wrong with a sign’s image, name, or description, tap Report an issue at the bottom of the Learn screen. This opens your email app with a message pre-filled with the sign’s details, ready for you to describe the problem and send.

Quiz Mode

Quiz mode tests you with multiple-choice questions drawn from the categories you choose.

Choosing categories

Just like Learn mode, tapping Quiz shows the category grid. Tap cards to tick them and pool them together, or press and hold a single card to jump straight into it. Locked categories route you to the Unlock screen.

Setting up your quiz

Before the questions start, you’ll choose:

• Scope — which pool of signs to draw questions from:
  • All signs — every sign in your selected categories.
  • Favorites only — just the signs you’ve starred.
  • Adaptive — draws more often from signs you’ve previously answered incorrectly, so you get extra practice on your weak spots.
• Question count — quick picks for 10, 20, or 30 questions, a Custom slider for any number, or All to use the entire pool. If you ask for more questions than the pool actually has, the app simply uses as many as it can and lets you know.

A Reset Favorites button is available if you want to clear all your starred signs — tap once to arm it, then tap again within a few seconds to confirm (so it’s hard to trigger by accident).

Answering questions

Each question shows a sign’s image and four possible descriptions to choose from — you’re being tested on what the sign means, not on memorizing its formal name.

1. Tap an answer to select it. You can change your mind and pick a different option as many times as you like — nothing is locked in yet.
2. Tap Confirm Answer to lock it in. As a shortcut, you can instead press and hold your selected answer for about a second, which selects and confirms it in one motion.
3. Once confirmed, the correct answer is marked, your choice is marked right or wrong, and a feedback line reveals the sign’s actual name.
4. Tap Next to move on, or swipe left on the question image — both do the same thing.

A star icon on the question image lets you favorite or unfavorite the current sign at any point during the quiz.

Auto-advance: after you confirm an answer, the app automatically moves to the next question after about 5 seconds (watch the small clock icon fill up as a countdown). Tap the clock icon at any time to turn auto-advance off for the rest of that quiz — you’ll then need to tap Next or swipe to continue. Tap it again to turn it back on.

If a question’s description mentions another sign by number, that number appears as a tappable link near the answers — tap it to see that sign in a popup, same as in Learn mode.

Report an issue is also available during a quiz, pre-filling an email with the current question’s sign details.

Your results

At the end of a quiz, you’ll see your score. If you missed any signs, they’re listed below with a thumbnail and name each, plus:

• A star icon to favorite that sign right from the results screen.
• A book icon to jump straight into Learn mode, landing on that exact sign for a quick review.

From here you can Retry (go back to the setup screen with the same categories, so you can re-pick scope and count) or go Back to Categories to choose a different category altogether.

Signs Catalogue

The Catalogue is a reference tool for looking up any sign directly, rather than studying or testing yourself.

1. Tap Catalogue on the Main Menu and choose one or more categories the same way as Learn and Quiz (tap to tick + Continue, or press and hold for just one category).
2. You’ll see a flat, scrollable list of every sign in your chosen categories, in their official numbering order, each with a thumbnail and name. A search box at the top filters the list as you type — searching matches a sign’s number, name, or description text.
3. Tap any row to open a detail view with the full image, name, and description, plus a favorite star. Tap Back to return to the list exactly where you left off, search text and scroll position intact.

The Catalogue has no shuffle or quiz behavior — it’s purely for quick lookups.

Unlocking Full Access

One sign category is free to explore without unlocking. The rest of the app’s content is available through Full Access, a one-time purchase.

Reach the unlock screen by tapping Unlock Full Access on any category grid, or by tapping a locked category card directly.

Buying Full Access

The Buy Full Access button shows the real price from the Play Store and, once purchased, unlocks every category permanently.

Using a school code

If your driving school has provided you with a code, enter it (letters are automatically capitalized as you type) and tap Confirm. The app checks the code and shows one of a few outcomes: accepted (often naming your school), invalid, a network error, or — if you take too long — the redemption window expiring, in which case you can simply enter the code again.

A valid school code applies your school’s discount to the purchase. If your code fully covers the cost, you’re granted access immediately with nothing further to buy.

Not sure if your school participates? Tap Partner Schools to browse or search the list of partner driving schools.

Restoring a previous purchase

Already bought Full Access on this Google account? Tap Restore Purchases to reapply it — useful after reinstalling the app or setting it up on a new device.

Settings & Personalization

These preferences are available from the small icons in the top bar of most screens, and apply everywhere in the app:

• Language — switch between Estonian, English, and Russian at any time; the whole app’s text, plus every sign’s name and description, updates immediately.
• Theme — switch between light and dark appearance.
• Sound effects — turn the app’s tap/flip/correct/incorrect sound effects on or off.

Learn mode has two of its own settings, described above: Blind / Full View (how flashcards behave) and Shuffle (sign order).

About, Support & Partner Schools

Tap About on the Main Menu to reach the Partner Schools screen — a searchable directory of driving schools that partner with the app. Each listing can include email, phone, and website contact buttons (a website search is offered automatically if a school hasn’t listed a site). If your school isn’t listed, a contact card at the bottom lets you email the developer directly to suggest it.

From there, tap About the app to reach a second screen with:

• A short description of the app and a disclaimer that it’s an independent educational tool, not affiliated with Estonia’s Transport Administration (Transpordiamet).
• A contact button to email the developer directly.
• A link to the official Estonian traffic-sign regulation this app’s content is based on.
• Privacy Policy and Terms & Disclaimers links.
• An Open Source Licenses screen listing the licenses for fonts bundled with the app.
• The app’s current version number.

Quick Reference: Gestures
